Weekday Lunch Buffet, Tunglok Seafood, Orchard Central


Tunglok Seafood is offering a variety of buffets for both lunch and dinner so you can enjoy wedding banquet style food with your folks without breaking the bank. The cheapest option is the weekday ala carte lunch buffet, priced at $28.80++. Choose from 44 dishes across a range of appetisers, dim sum, seafood, staples and desserts, making sure to order their popular salmon sashimi, XO fried carrot cake and Tunglok chilli prawns.

As with all buffets, there are hits and misses in this ala carte buffet. Some of my least favourite dishes were the fish maw soup and hor fun. Both were a disappointment as they were lacking in taste and depth. For the hor fun, the distinct wok hei taste was visibly not present, and the egg gravy did little to help. It could be that the kitchen was overwhelmed when I visited, resulting in under-seasoned dishes.

Nonetheless, I was quite pleased with the rest of the dishes, and most pleased with the variety. I did not wait very long for my dishes to arrive, and they came piping hot. Service was excellent as well. For these reasons, $28.80++ is truly a steal. There are a few things to note before your visit:

  • There is an additional $2 per person for free flow Chinese tea, or $3 per person for free flow soft drinks.
  • Even though the website states that a minimum 2 pax to dine is required, the smallest portion per dish is a 4 pax portion. So to make this buffet even more worth it, just jio all your kakis until you hit the maximum 5 pax for your table.
  • On busy days such as Fridays and weekends, the restaurant may limit your dining time to 1 hour 45 minutes.

You can view their ala carte lunch menu here. Alternatively, if you feel like spoiling yourself and your guests, Tunglok Seafood also offers a deluxe version for the ala carte buffet. For lunch, the deluxe buffet costs $38.80++ but you get more items on the menu such as chilli crab (limited to 1 serving per table), poaches prawns in herbal soup and deep fried sea bass in light soya sauce.
