Ginkyo by Kinki is the perfect spot to have a meal with your bestest of friends or your favourite person. Set in a chic Japanese bistro, you can tell that each dish is crafted thoughtfully, with cotemporary elements that elevates common dishes to the greater heights.

The Uni, Caviar, Ikura Crispies is literally what the name luxuriously suggests, with a spoonful of negitoro and a spray of gold dust. This appetiser actually comes in 3s, but you can have the option to top up for one or two more pieces depending on the size of your party.

Warm, satisfying bowl of silky steamed egg topped with prawns, foie gras and aromatic truffles. This was a special menu item so I was glad to have caught it.

This is a must order! The crispy battered eggplant comes with a side of sour plum cream and pistachio bits which tastes like a refreshing yoghurt dip. The combination of textures and flavours in this dish is quite interesting.

Refreshing swordfish salsa mix but wow the crispy light rice cracker sealed the deal for me.

It’s no secret by now that I love both okonomi and rosti so this dish was pretty much everything I liked. Mix-ins were scallops, bacon and topped with the mentaiko sauce so it’s a little fancy for sure. Portions are huge and I’d recommend this dish for sharing.

Don’t you just love the crispy rice bits that is iconic of claypot dishes? The unagi claypot is wonderfully flavoured without being too cloying with the unagi sauce. Unagi is also soft and nicely grilled.

This theatrical dish was served on a piping hot hotplate, allowing you to watch the eggs slowly cook as you cut straight into the A4 wagyu hamburg. It looks messy, but the elements in this dish presented themselves coherently. Think crispy rice at the bottom, soft wagyu hamburg, lightly battered vegetable tempura and warm jiggly egg. What’s there not to like about this dish?!

Of all the dishes I’ve tried at Ginkyo, this was probably the weakest. The lamb itself was tender and without gamey taste, but the curry miso was rather muted and lacked that spicy punch.
