SKOSH at NAFA Campus along Bencoolen Street serves up dishes with a Japanese touch and to be honest I was pretty pleasantly surprised by the creativity of their dishes! The fusion aspects are prominent, well executed and I like that they did not go overboard with it.

Could this be the best chicken karaage in town?! I was pretty mind-blown after trying a bite; the flavours are over the roof. Who would have known that this unassuming karaage would keep me so distracted throughout the meal because I kept eyeing it to make sure there were still enough to go round. Savoury, juicy chunks of chicken with a hint of sweetness at the end. A party pleaser.

The classic tater tots topped with mentaiko mayo and house seasoning. Need I say more?

This dish is perfect for lazy people like me who are tired to wrestling chicken chunks. SKOSH’s chicken thigh katsu comes breaded with panko crumbs that are nicely cut into bite sized pieces, sunny-side-up, waffle and yuzu maple syrup. The waffles remind me of those Belgium waffles — slightly sweet and a little crunchy.

I love okonomi-anything, and I love rosti. This is the best of both worlds in my opinion. Imagine this: shredded potatoes pan fried till crisp, topped with ingredients found in okonomiyaki such as bonito flakes and sweet sauce. The result is a tangy and hearty combination that will satiate any souls out there.

SKOSH offers a variety of drinks to go with their food. Besides crowd favourite Uji Matcha Latte, I also had the Sea Salt Hot Chocolate ($7.50) which was rich and wholesome. I absolutely loved the addition of the sea salt in this drink which gave the sweetness a nice contrast from time to time. Apart from cafe drinks, they offer various alcoholic drinks ranging from beer and wine to sake and even highball! I can imagine coming here after work to wind down over drinks with friends.

Interesting rendition of the family favourite dessert brownie with ice cream, the houjicha brownie is fudgy and the houjicha notes easily perfumes each bite. If brownies are not your thing, try their Matcha Tiramisu ($14) which is quite unique and not easily found elsewhere.
Do check out SKOSH if you’re in the vicinity — whether it’s for a meal or just to have a drink with friends, they have something for everyone. Be sure to order their karaage!
