Thankful for authentic Taiwanese fare that doesn’t break the bank! Abundance: Taiwanese Restaurant and Craft Beer Bar at Jalan Besar serves up tasty Taiwanese dishes that are rather impressionable and enjoyable.

The Golden Chicken Mee Sua ($13.90) was the star of the meal for me as it comes with a fragrant herbal based soup stock and silky Taiwan mee sua. You know it’s the real deal when they use Taiwan mee sua here — the texture just hits different from the Singapore based mee sua. The herbal soup stock and subtle shaoxing wine does not overpower the senses yet at the same time it’s just enough to make one feel like they’re getting a health boost from this dish. Would eat this over and over again if I could.

I love braised pork belly buns because it reminds me of how my grandpa used to make this for me on a weekly basis as a way of showing his love. I must admit that I enjoyed Abundance’s Gua Bao ($7.90) more than I thought I would! The Gua Bao came with a good proportion of preserved vegetables, peanuts and a hint on spice on a thick slab of braised pork belly. The other wow factor has got to do with the size of the gua bao — larger than the usual braised pork belly buns in restaurants or dim sum places. Quite value for money in a sense.

The Dark-plings ($9.90) is the non spicy rendition of the usual chilli oil dumplings. Think thick, juicy pork and shrimp dumplings doused in fragrant scallion oil and dark sauce. Great side dish for sharing!

Carb lovers would appreciate the Crab Fried Rice with Tobiko ($16.90). While they sure did not scrimp on the crab chunks which were sweet and well, chunky, the fried rice itself could do with a little more flavour. I had expected a little more considering this place is well known for their DTF-style fried rice, but unfortunately this was the poorest dish of the meal for me.

The Bacon Cabbage (10.90) is yet another winner in Abundance. Besides the crunchy texture of the cabbage, it had a nice wok hei taste and flavourful sauce that is enhanced by the bacon bits and chilli oil.
There are many items on the menu that caught my attention so I guess I will be back again to try them out. Heard the desserts like the Peanut Ice Cream Roll are great as well! Have you visited them before? Let me know in the comments below what your favourite dish was!
