Aroy Mak Mookata at MacPherson Road is probably the most value for money dinner mookata buffet for the quality and atmosphere. This is my favourite go to mookata place, simply because it checks off the following boxes:
- Well marinated meats
- Good variety of steamboat items
- Clean environment
- Air conditioned
- Services are ala carte (been this way even before covid-19)
- Prices are nett
The standard dinner buffet (weekdays $19.80, weekends $22.80) only offers pork and chicken plus the usual steamboat vegetables. It does not have premium ingredients like beef and seafood. To have those items, you’ll have to add an additional $10 per pax for the premium buffet. While I am always tempted to do so, I quickly realise the standard buffet pretty much suffices because the meats are so well marinated and the variety of pork cuts and flavours are not too lacking.
The meats will be served in one single plate so just be careful there. If your party has someone who does not like any particular flavour, for example black pepper, then you should request for it to be served separately.
While drinks are not included in the buffet, there is free flow ice cream to end off the buffet on a sweet note. Flavours include coconut and mint, but they may rotate them depending on availability. I love the coconut ice cream because it cuts through all the greasiness from the pork, plus it has bits of coconut within.
If you’re heading there on a weekend, be sure to reach early as the queue can get pretty long as it gets later. Also, Aroy Mak Mookata only accepts cash or nets so bring enough along!
