Happen to be in town and craving for better than average yakiniku (grilled meat)? Head to Concorde Hotel where Yakinikutei Ao-Chan is located on the second floor.
The layout is such that it’s rows of cushioned booths, with one row not more than 4-5 booths on one side. There’s a high wall next to each booth so it feels like you’re in your own space because the adjacent table (across the isle) is quite a distance apart.
If it’s your first time here I highly recommend getting the Prime Beef Course ($45.80) as it has:
- Salad
- A sampler of 3 different beef cuts (belly tender prime, rose prime, belly with rib)
- Ox tripe, ox liver, ox tongue
- A bowl of plum rice
- Ox tail soup
- A scoop of ice cream.
Do not like tripe and liver? You may exchange it for pork or chicken.
In addition to the above set, I also tried the following:
Wagyu Beef Steak, $45
Karubi Prime and Wagyu Cube Set, $25
Pork Belly, $11.80
Japanese Pork Belly, $15.80
Chicken, $9.80
Garlic Rice, $5.50
BBQ Onigiri, $3
Assorted vegetables, $6
It wasn’t my first time at Yakinikutei Ao-Chan and I have noticed that they do bring in seasonal items such as the A5 Hokkaido Snow Beef.
Toro Karubi, $42.
Each dish above is worth the buck, even the slightly pricey Garlic Rice. Every meat or accompaniment was quality, and deeply satisfied my party of 6. The only pity is they use gas stove rather than charcoal. Would imagine that grilling the meat over charcoal would add another layer of flavour.
Yakinikutei Ao-Chan exudes an old school hole in a wall Japanese eatery vibe. The atmosphere is cozy and you won’t break the bank. Note that this place is highly popular so do make your reservations in advanced!
