GO!!!
Location
Located along Tanjong Pagar Road, this humble eatery that seats approx 25 pax is small, but definitely not easy to miss. On the couple of times I visited during a weekend lunch, I had to join a long queue. It’s not that bad, benches and cold water are provided to keep you hydrated and happy from the otherwise irritable hot weather. While waiting, a staff will pop by to request for your order. Picking what to choose is really a no-brainer because…
Food
There are only two choices to choose from!
Left: Special ($13.90). Prawn 2pcs, Chicken Breast 2pcs, Half-boiled Egg, Vegetables 4pcs
Right: Vegetable ($12.90). Pumpkin, Shiitake Mushroom, Lotus Root, Eggplant, Other Vegetables 4pcs
Before they serve you your tempura bowl, they will first serve Chawanmushi and miso soup. Whuuuuut. This price and still it comes with an appetiser and soup?! You kidding right?
Nope. The first time I visited, I went mad. How could anyone squeeze so much goodness into one meal?! The bowl comes with Tempura overflowing and the sauce is really addictive. You hardly feel any jelat-ness even though the entire bowl is huge. Did I already mention that it’s really affordable as well? The only pity was that they used chicken breast meat in the Special bowl. Chicken breast meat has a dry texture so taking a bite into the big chunk was, as expected, not impressive.
Interior
I was really tickled because I saw pots and pots of rice cookers behind the Chef counter. There were about 9 of them! I wish I had a picture to go along with this. Will get one for sure when I next visit. Other than that, I enjoyed seeing the Chef coat the ingredients before frying them into crunchy light tempura pieces. Every bowl is made on demand so you can be sure it won’t be soggy when it reaches you.
Oh yes, because it’s all fried, you will leave the place smelling like fried food. No worries, they provide Febreeze. 🙂
